Why Working Hard Won’t Help You

We live in a day and age where hustle culture is applauded and often idealized. With the rise of the term ‘Girlboss’ , women are joining in this culture more adamantly. Everyone wants in, but why?

An easy answer to this would be: Wanting to be viewed as a hardworking individual who aspires to transform their own world by putting in a rigorous amount of effort. Another could be the lovely allure of money.

Though the most obvious reason is how we’ve been raised to think. Growing up most of us were taught by the media, our parents and school that we can’t be anything or anyone unless we work so hard that we forget to sleep and have a heavy wallet.

We’ve also been taught that in order to be free in this world that we live in, the most important thing is freedom. Especially financial freedom, due to the capitalist world we live in. Without money, none of our dreams, ambitions, or goals are possible. So now we need money. And the only way to get that is to have a job and slave around for years and years till we can actually use the accumulated amount to buy something, that is, if you haven’t fallen for all the advertising around you to buy, buy and buy. And so, we slave around day and night thinking that this immense amount of effort and lack of self reflection and care will somehow make us ‘big’ one day. That brilliant story was fed to us by the same creators of this faulty system, for free of charge course.

And by this universally accepted thought process- here we are, a collective consciousness , consciously slaving around.
